EMPIRICAL STUDY OF POSTTRAUMATIC GROWTH AS A MANIFESTATION OF POLICE OFFICERS’ ANTIFRAGILITY

The article is devoted to the study of posttraumatic growth among police officers within the framework of the concept of antifragility, understood as the individual’s ability not only to maintain functional stability under stress but also to develop through traumatic experience. The relevance of the study is обусловлена police officers’ professional activity under martial law and conditions of increased risk, which highlights the need to examine resource-based mechanisms of positive psychological transformation. The aim of the study was to empirically investigate the features of posttraumatic growth as an indicator of police officers’ antifragility and to determine the influence of socio-professional factors on its expression. The sample consisted of 128 police officers from various units of the National Police of Ukraine. The Posttraumatic Growth Inventory – Expanded (PTGI-X) was used to assess posttraumatic growth. The findings revealed manifestations of posttraumatic growth of varying intensity in a substantial proportion of respondents. The most pronounced changes were observed in the domains of interpersonal relationships, sense of personal strength, and recognition of new opportunities. Statistically significant differences in posttraumatic growth were identified depending on experience in extreme conditions, age, and length of service, with higher levels characteristic of officers possessing greater professional and life experience. The influence of family factors showed a tendency but did not reach statistical significance. It is concluded that posttraumatic growth serves as an important psychological mechanism of police officers’ antifragility, facilitating the transformation of stressful experience into a resource for personal and professional development. The results may be applied in designing psychological support programs and in fostering antifragile characteristics within the system of professional training for police officers.
