FEATURES OF INTERMEDIAL ANALYSIS OF LITERARY WORKS IN FOREIGN LITERATURE CLASSES AT GENERAL SECONDARY EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

Abstract

The article theoretically substantiates the specifics of the use of the intermedia approach in the educational process and presents the methodology for its implementation in foreign literature lessons in secondary education institutions. The author considers intermedia analysis as an effective tool for comparing a literary text with works of various types of art, which allows students to more deeply understand the features of the artistic image, genre nature and means of artistic representation. The work outlines the main condition for successful comparative analysis at the stage of generalizing the study of a work of art - the presence of appropriate methodological tools (graphic systematizers (tables) with appropriate content and form-forming components). Considerable attention is paid to the formation of basic knowledge of cinematographic terminology (script, frame, scene, montage, angle, plan, light, musical accompaniment, etc.), which ensures a conscious and effective comparison of literary and cinematic means. The article provides examples of intermedial analysis: a comparison of Diana Wynne Jones’ novel «Howl’s Moving Castle» and G. Miyazaki’s anime, Joseph Conrad’s novel «Heart of Darkness» and F. Coppola’s film «Apocalypse Now», as well as the interpretation of poetry in musical art (works by R. Burns, F. Schiller, R. Kipling). As an example, an intermedial analysis of R. Kipling’s poetry «If ...» and Taras Vienz’s rock ballad are proposed. The comparison of works of art is carried out according to universal aspects: according to universal aspects: theme and idea, form of presentation, narrative, characters, chronotope, emotional impact, symbolism, perception, imagination of the reader/viewer. It is emphasized that intermedia analysis contributes to the development of critical thinking, creative interpretive abilities, cultural competence, and increases the motivation for learning of students, while requiring interdisciplinary training from the teacher.
