DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES IN THE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING OF FUTURE GEOGRAPHY AND BIOLOGY TEACHERS

The article explores the integration of digital technologies into the professional training of future geography and biology teachers. It establishes that digital (information-digital) competence is a fundamental pedagogical skill, encompassing the ability to utilize, create, and implement digital resources within professional practice. The aim of this article is to provide a theoretical substantiation of the role digital technologies play in the professional training of future geography and biology teachers and to identify effective strategies for developing their digital competence. The research elucidates the conceptual framework of “digital technologies” and provides an analysis of their various types. Specific groups of digital tools suitable for both classroom and extracurricular activities in higher education have been identified. The study outlines key areas for integrating these tools into the educational process, including the use of:digital presentations and questionnaires? mind maps and interactive books, geographic Information Systems (GIS) and virtual laboratories, online identification guides, interactive platforms, and multimedia resources. Furthermore, the article provides concrete examples of software applications that demonstrate high efficiency in training geography and biology specialists. The article substantiates the specific features of developing the digital competence of future geography and biology teachers during the study of professional academic disciplines in higher education institutions. The structural components of digital competence – namely technical, information-analytical, communicative, methodical, creative, and security-related – are analyzed in detail. The study also substantiates the importance of digital tools for effective pedagogical activity in the context of global educational digitalization. Specific tasks have been developed to enhance digital competence during the methodical training of future geography and biology teachers. The study identifies key challenges in the formation of future educators’ digital competence and proposes strategic pathways for overcoming them.
