Abstract

The article describes and analyzes the impact of theatrical art on the mental health of modern youth. The war in Ukraine has significantly affected people’s mental well-being, causing fear, uncertainty, and loss.Under such conditions, it is important to find ways to restore emotional balance, including through theatrical art, which can help process traumatic experiences. Theater contributes to the development of communication skills, awareness of one’s humanity, and the ability to empathize. In modern psychoanalysis, theatrical art helps to transform distress into eustress, contributing to recovery. The renowned psychologist L. Vygotsky emphasized that art engages us in social life, influencing both consciousness and emotions. Theater, as an essential art form, is no exception in this process. The authors of “The Beauty of Pedagogical Action” emphasize the great importance of theatrical performance, which, by combining speech and stage elements, has a tremendous emotional impact. К. Jung highlights the “mystical involvement” of theater, which unites the individual with the collective, revealing unconscious needs. E. Berne underscores the benefits of communication through theater, as emotional stimuli help to prevent mental disorders. Comedies and tragedies have a similar effect on students’ mental health, encouraging compassion.Drama therapy is used to improve communication skills, particularly for shy individuals who struggle to engage in social interactions. R. Rogers emphathises that a person can change their attitude toward events. Participation in theatrical activities enhances mental health through self-expression, the development of social skills, confidence building, stress relief, a sense of community, creativity, and empathy. Young people have the opportunity to express themselves, explore emotions, interact with others, and take risks in a safe environment that fosters overall well-being.
