Abstract

The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of the factors of mathematical literacy of 15-year-old students of Ukraine based on the results of the international studies PISA 2018 and PISA 2022. The aim of the study is to identify changes in the structure of influence of factors that determine the level of mathematical literacy of Ukrainian schoolchildren, as well as to assess the transformation of their significance in the conditions of significant socio-economic challenges. The empirical basis of the study is PISA microdata, processed in the statistical environment R using the haven, tidyverse, survey, intsvy and randomForest packages. Separate models were built for each cycle of the study, which made it possible to determine the relative importance of socio-economic, demographic and resource factors of mathematical literacy. The results obtained show that in 2018 the most significant predictor was the ICTHOME indicator. In 2022, the structure of factors changed significantly: ESCS, AGE and HOMEPOS became dominant. At the same time, the influence of digital resources decreased compared to the previous cycle of the study. The results obtained confirm the strengthening of the role of the family educational environment, material support and socio-economic conditions in the formation of mathematical literacy of students in conditions of crisis factors. The practical significance of the study lies in the possibility of improving state educational policy, developing student support programs and making management decisions aimed at improving the quality of mathematical literacy in Ukraine.
