Abstract

The article analyses the pedagogical foundations of developing translation skills for medical terminology of Latin and Greek origin in the training of students of higher medical education institutions. The relevance of the study is determined by the need to train specialists capable of working with international medical literature, regulatory documentation, clinical protocols and contemporary scientific sources. This activity requires well-developed skills in the accurate interpretation and translation of professional terminology. The pedagogical foundations of developing translation skills for medical terminology of Latin and Greek origin have been substantiated, and the role of etymological and structural-semantic analysis in the development of students’ translation skills and terminological competence has been determined. The historical prerequisites for the formation of the medical terminology system based on Greek and Latin elements, the specific features of the functioning of Latin and Ancient Greek terminological elements in modern anatomical and clinical nomenclature, and their significance for the correct understanding and translation of specialised texts have been analysed. The study demonstrates that effective development of translation skills for medical terminology is based on a comprehensive understanding of the etymology, word-formation structure, semantics and orthographic features of terms. The expediency of using etymological and structural-semantic analysis as important methodological teaching tools has been substantiated. The application of etymological and structural-semantic analysis contributes to the development of translation skills, terminological competence, professional thinking and the readiness of future specialists to work with international medical informationThe results of the study can be applied in the teaching of Latin and medical terminology in institutions of higher medical education, as well as in the development of professional, terminological and translation competence of future specialists in the medical field.
