THE INFLUENCE OF STUDENTS’ INDEPENDENT WORK ON THE FORMATION OF PROFESSIONAL АBILITIES IN THE EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT OF A HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION

Abstract

This paper is devoted to the problem of how students’ independent work impacts on the formation of their professional abilities as well as determines the basic qualities of a specialist the formation of which proceed in the education environment of higher education. The article discusses the main professional skills and abilities, which formation is impacted by the process of teaching students at the university, among which such an important skill as the ability of the independent work. The paper points out the need to optimize the organization of the educational process at high school in order to improve these skills and abilities, namely the ratio of those forms of education that form knowledge, skills and abilities and those, that make conditions for the formation of students’ abilities for self-study. It is noted that one of the general tasks of the modern educational process is to strengthen the role of independent work as a type of cognitive and practical activity of students while pursuing higher education. In the process of reviewing and analyzing the development state of the problem of the role of independent work in the educational process in special educational and methodical, scientific and pedagogical literature, the essence of the concept of “independent work” as a type of cognitive and practical activity of students in the studying process at university is revealed. It turns out that despite the fact that much attention is paid to the role of independent work, pedagogical science does not have an obvious answer to the question how to define the essence of this concept. Based on this analysis, the following conclusions were reached: the formation of conditions for effective independent work of students involves, first of all, their fundamental scientific and methodological support by further studying the experience of Ukrainian and foreign higher educational institutions, deepening the theory of students’ independent cognitive activity and developing scientific and methodological recommendations on its basis.
